I did my stock 5th gens to all red and they looked
Spike has them now and I'm sure he loves them.
I have a set of 1st gen Altezzas painted to red on top and clear on the bottom right now. Looks good. The paint on both sets has held up for a long time -- over a year on the stock set, and a couple months so far on the tezzas.

No clear coat. After the first paint coats, i left them on the apt porch. The wind was blowing like hell that day. I got all kinds of crap in the paint. Had to sand them down again. After the second set of coats, it turned out really good.
Just go to ebay and get you a stock pair of 99-00 tails, then you dont have to worry about the legality, potential of messing up, and the possibility of it turning out crappy or fading, plus nothing is cleaner looking than factory/OEM.
