if i wanna do a mini-me on my 98 D16Y7 (OBDII), can i use a vtec head from an OBDI car ? like a 5th gen EX, or a del sol ?

 

I beleive you can, but the timing belt has to be from a certain engine -- I forget which one. You would also need a VTEC ECU along with some other stuff. I think if you search for mini-me and my screen name, a thread will come up with a lot of information. The general consencous was that if you aren't getting all the parts for free, it would be better to throw in a complete SOHC VTEC motor.

 

i would really like to get the whole motor, but i would have to get it from a website or partstrader, etc. any shop around here says they cant get it or wants way too much for it. over $800 ! that's why im just goin for the head, i can probably get it off ebay, and shipping isnt too bad.

 

dont obdI's have different plugs for the injectors and distributor?

well for one thing your going to have to get either a harness from an EX or your gonna have to do some wiring up yourself. i started my mini me project last night. all was fine till i realized i had to unplug everything and pull the dx' harness.

when you swap off a dx(in my case a d16y7) for an ex head(d16y8)

 

for the EG you would need these parts off an Si/EX d16z6

head
valve cover
dizzy
ecu
intake manifold
fuel rail
injectors
throttle body

and various other little hoses and 4 wires from the ECU to somewhere for VTEC. no need to replace the harness.... someone correct me if i missed something?
