choosing a new engine
hey guys, ive got a 97 DX Coupe with 106000 miles on it, and im thinking of doing an engine swap after maybe another 25K or so...
im kind of new to the whole civic thing, so im not sure what kind of engines i can put into my car...i want something fast, and im willing to spend up to 4500 for it, any ideas?

you can use b16, b18, b20, h22, h23
I'd go with a b18b with a mild turbo.
your best bet is to use the search button at top right of the screen and search for swap, hybrid, things like that. also I believe we still have a hybrid forum (all people with swaps) so check it out.
by the way welcome to the board.

it's my D in a B
$4500 will get you a low-milage b18c gsr motor prolly installed. Or you could spend a bit more and go with the b18c5 itr. Both weigh about the same. If youre really concerned with handling, i'd stay away from the bigger engines. If you just want to go fast, the H22 is for you. Or for that price you could get an older b16 and build/turbo it a little.

so if you guys had the choice for just a fast car, not drag race fast or anything, but just fast, would you go with the b18c gsr or the h22?
the b18c has almost 180hp and the h22 has 200, right?

you're gonna need a bunch of extra parts (mounting kit, etc..) for the h22 plus issues arise with keeping p/s and a/c. supposedly both can be kept but you need a different hood.

4500 is probably a little bit lower for b18b turbo, but the extra cash is worth it considering youll have one hell of a fast car.

Is the car going to be driven in snow/ice ever? Cuz i've heard lots of stories about H22's being very front end heavy. Just imagine that problem, trying to get it to turn on slick roads, or regular roads for that matter. Someone please correct me if i'm overexaggerating the H22 problem. :bigok: B18 would be better choice IMO.
