Del Sol or CRX
I have a friend who can't decide if he wants to get a Del Sol or a CRX. What differences are there? which one is better? He choice is between a 93-94 del Sol or 89-91 CRX. He will eventually do an engine swap so the stock engine has no effect on his choice.

It all depends on what your friend wants the car for... Obviously, you are going to get alot more people that are going to favor a Del Sol in a Del Sol forum... everyone on this forum is damned happy to own such an awesome car, and would recomend getting one to anybody.
If your friend wants a good looking, great handling car, with the benefits of a removable targa top, then the Del Sol is definitely the way to go.
If he wants a car to cut apart, and use strictly for drag racing, then the lighter and cheaper CRX would be a better decision.
Both cars are great, and can both be made fast fairly easily... it just depends on what his plans and his budget are.
Good luck.

i'd say CRX, i have a hatchback si but CRX's are lighter and once you drop and engine in it, it'll fly (JDM B16) but also Del Sols are nice and they can be made fast easily as well but CRX is cheaper than Del Sol not so much powered (power steering, windows, locks....) so its up to the stuff that he all wants in a car really..

I live in Colorado and there are not many Del Sol here. There are mainly Civics, Eclipse, and Mustangs. Though there are more crx's than Del Sol's I can't think of a reason why this could be. Other than the removable top when it snows both cars handle about the same. Is there any reason why the Del Sol is not as popular as the other cars? Fom what I know of a B16 swap is just as easy in both cars.

Once again Del Sols are heavier, CRX's are probably around (i may be wrong) 300-400 pounds less and CRX's handle better if they both had suspension tunings and springs, the CRX would handle better.

the heaviest crx is like 400lbs lighter than the sol
that in it self is a big reason to pick the crx..
i have a sol, im selling it and getting a crx.. why?
Because I cant afford to make the sol fast enough in the straights and twisties, so im down grading to a CRX because of cost and ease
also, i love the top off, but the sol handles like a sloppy pig without it!

You still haven't really told us what his plans are. Like brancato1 said, if he wants to do a lot of street racing, beating up on Mustangs, ect... the CRX would be the way to go. But if he is looking for something a bit more refined, something that isn't 12-15 years old, and something with a few more options, then the Sol would be a better choice. Keep in mind though that the Sol can still be made to go fast. It just won't be as fast as a CRX with equal mods.

I don't know much about the sol but I assume a swap into a sol is much cheaper then a crx and even though I'm an old honda type of guy and love the rex to death I would go with the sol as a project car. But his decision will mostly have to be based on how much cash he has to spend. you can find some pretty cheap rexes I don't think I've ever see a cheap sol in ok shape.
