The older (made in Japan) Alpine stuff is actually of higher quality than the newer (made in USA) stuff.

My PPI amp is over 6 years old, but I chose this one over any of the newer (similarly priced) PPI amps because the older art series were one of the cleanest PPI's ever made.

Rule of thumb: if it ain't broke...don't fix it

A lot of the old school "nice" stuff has gone waaaay to mainstream They used to be about quality, now they're more focused on profit.

sony's a clear example. its sad to say I'm starting to think the same about pioneer, too. But pioneers headunits still rock.

Yeah sony went WAY downhill with the introduction of their Xplode line. Their old Mobile ES stuff was sweet.

As for pioneer I still love their headunits, but their amps are...ugh...just try picking one up - it weighs nothing!
