Default timing belt change

so whenever my car is on, I hear like a high pitched squeaking from under the hood... i'm assuming it's the timing belt because it's never been changed (130k or so miles)...

anyway i'll be getting this done over the summer some time, but that's not my question...

timing belt repairs are fairly expensive here in Chicago so I was thinking that while i'm getting this done I can ask them up "upgrade" my car as well..

I dunno sh!t about engines so forgive me if this sounds stupid... but what exactly can I have "upgraded" while changing the timing belt?? Clearly I'm referring to upgrading whatever parts I can that is involved in the timing belt change, so I dont have to have the same work done later and end up paying again.

Just basically need to know what parts to buy and give to the repair shop.

I have a 1998 Civic EX coupe... automatic... (yea, I know... shhh)

If you were going to do anything with the head (or the camshaft itself) or replace the head gasket, doing that at the time of a timing belt change would, in theory, save some money on labor. Normally the only other things replaced when they do a timing belt change (and btw you're just asking for trouble by driving the car at all with that many miles on the belt) are the tensioner, water pump, and a few seals..

They also have to the remove the driver's side engine mount to replace the belt, so there would be no extra labor in putting a new one in it's place during this. Not a performance mod but will lessen any vibrations felt in the cabin.

yea tensioner seals and water pump i was gonna have them do for sure, whether it was included in the service or not...

i was looking more for some performance enhancing options I can have done while getting the belt changed? anything? I was looking at instructions on how to change the timing belt and it looks like they have to take a lot of crap apart... there's nothing in there that I can modify?

nothing performance oriented is removed or un-covered while doing a t-belt and water pump. I would however have them do a valve adjustment as well.

WRONG! Meziere water pump kit, but it's like 4 bills. Good for 30 to 40 at the flywheel.

Also do the drivers side cam seal.

 40 at the flywheel. Sorry but taking out the resistance of a water pump is more along the lines of 10-15 IF that. I also have no idea why you would think this was a good thing to even mention for a daily driven civic.

I stand corrected. My info wasn't right-BUT you didn't need to be a smart ass about it. 4 to 6 at the wheels.

Why you assume it's daily driven? Where does it state that?

he stated he doesn't know shit about the engine, and it is a 130k mile automatic civic. Doesn't really scream race car to me, but shit I could be crazy. I was only a smart ass because you were trying to be a smart ass yourself, don't think coming in here and trying to point out some obscure performance part like an electric water pump is gonna make me look like the ass. Thanks for playing.

WOAH!!!! You were being blunt, and thinking that no one would point it out. So I guess we were BOTH being egotistical about it. I was OBVIOUSLY wrong about my info, and I have no problem admitting it. You on the other hand, well you were rude about correction. I'll freely admit errors, that's the only way I learn. After all that's what we're here for right? DON'T BE A @#$@!!!!!!!

getting on my bad side won't bode well for you in this forum. I was not being egotistical, I was pointing out that there are no performance mods worth doing while doing a timing belt. YOU were trying to be a clever prick by pointing out some over the top electric water pump like it was a normal performance part all the kids are buying on ebay these days.

Moving along, I apollogize for the side track OP. like stated above, whilst you are at it, do the cam seal and the valve adjustment if it hasn't been done.
