They actually run around $3500-4000, give or take, but yah, you might as well go with an ITR swap if you're going to spend that much.

a friend of mine actualy just got an h22 in a 5th gen hatch... its SICK... but in the words of EVERYONE who helped with the project.. "we will NEVER do that swap again" it tool SO SO SO long... i must admit i was not personaly involved in the swap process, but i can tel you WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY... every other day there was a NEW problem.... he could have went with a slightly smaller motor and MAYBE a small shot of juice and EASILY out ran the h-22... the car is badass now.. but it was still unnecisary... i just think its overkill..

Ontopic, I heard you can retain AC, but wave bye-bye to P/S

b18c5 < h22 only in the torque and potencial turbo possibilities.

Other than that, b18c5 > h22

H22A swaps are very expensive. I wanted to do one but the prices to avoid little headaches, bigger brakes, custom down pipe (so I could have my car low), mounts them selves, labour costs, lossing the car for a week while the did the swap.
IF I had the cash to spend on this swap then I would do it. Here's one thing to think tho, you have to change the engine mounts completely, now if you blow the engine you can't simplely put a d-series back in while the H22 is being fixed (or replaced). With a b-series in a 5th gen tho, no mounts have to be changed so you can drop the d-series in while getting your b-series fixed. (this is assuming you only have one car).

I can imagine going from a b-series to a d-series would suck. Especially non-vtec d-series

Vtec doesn't make too huge a difference on the d series engines. I have one, and I am quite underwhelmed. Gotta start saving the monies up....

none the less, going from 170 hp to 100 isn't fun.

but wouldn't the trannys have to be changed as well?

I would suck to have to go back to a D or B series cause passenger side mount was cut out and H mount welded in but im happy with it Here where I live I got the h22 cheaper than a gsr so besides the mounts hasport it was not that more but I still a better ecu still using a P-28

hmm.. I have an idea. why not a b16 head, b20 block [bored], type r cams. hmm that sounds like a good idea. That way you dont have to spend that much on the engine.
