Default Fixing a windshield

I noticed a scratch on my windshield the other day. It's not a crack, but its defintly not dirt. The sucky part is its about 5 inches long. No clue how it got there, but its right in front of me when im driving. It's not deep, anyone know if it can be fixed?

sounds stupid, but as a temporary fix, get some Rain-X. I had a badly pitted windshield, and it helped a lot. Doesn't make sense, but it does...
