d15b overheating problem
My car is overheating badly. I am about two weeks from getting a new engine but I need to drive the car from now till then (I need a motor cause my rear main seal, crank seal and oil seal are all bad or on there way to being bad.) I also believe my rings are going as well. Anyways when I am driving the car overheats worse even with the heater on full blast. When I idle the fan does kick on but it does not bring the temp down. Is it possible that my thermostat is bad? Usually reving the motor will bring the temp down but not in my case. I am burning white smoke out my tail pipe when I start it up and drive for a while but it eventually it goes away is this symptoms of a blown head gasket? Like I said I just need to be able to drive it without it overheating for another two weeks and I will be rid of this problem of an engine and have a smooth running car finally. i would try pulling out the thermostat and throwing it in a pan of boiling water to see if it opens if it does then you could take the oil cap off and see if theres any milky residue foaming up in your clinder head-HINTS-leading to a blown head gasket, or you could check the oil for any sign of coolant mixing with your oil also leading to a blown gasket. but your best bet before assuming its blown is to check the thermo first.
I have no milky residue thats the first thing I checked. My thought on that though is that since I am putting two quarts of oil in it every 3-4 days I don't keep oil in it long enough for the residue to show up. I was planning on trying the thermostat thing so hopefully its just that and i will be able to salvage it for another week or two
Yea I am getting a new motor put in as soon as I get my taxes back. I am just putting another d-series in it cause i live in california and its a B**** to do a swap here because of all the smog crap. I got a place that will sell me the motor and put it in for $700.
