if you can't get it any tighter, then that's as far as it goes. that's is assuming that you clamped the top while wrenching on the nut.

the other way to do it is to use some vice grips and hold the actual rod from the other end. Basically jack the car up, and grab it between the coils of the spring with the vice grips, and try tightening it more.

Wont the mess up the rod? I would just keep at holding the top and then tighting the nut.

If you do this, make sure you do it as high as you can on the rod or you'll mess it up. Forgot to mention that.

i tried getting to the rod to tighten it, but the dust cover is in the way. i couldnt tighten it anymore..

The nut is so tight, what would be the chances of it popping off?

bakeoff.. that will mess up the rod...

if you gonna do it that way, get a piece of cardboard and stick it inbetween the rod and the vicegrips. you wont mess up the rod that way.
