Default Civic vx motor w/ P08/P28 or run the P07?

Hey guys. I'm looking to swapping out my JDM d15b vtec for a d15z1.

Do you think my P08 JDM ECU will run the d15z1 properly? I had a P28 with the d15b vtec, and it ran without a hitch, but something tells me that a P08 & P28 are more similar to one another than a P07.

Thanks in advance

d15b and d16z6 are nearly identical, so no surprise that the ecu's run pretty much the same. The d15z1 is a completely different beast with a lower redline, not nearly as much airflow and vtec-e, so my guess is it wont run very well on a p28.

I have a p07 you can have for cheap if you want... but I would advise against this swap h:

Why, Dave would you rule against it? I know going from 135hp to 92 is :hay:, but I'm putting the 67 Camaro back together, and would rather treat this car like a golf cart. o:

Thanks for the reply
I'll take the P07, though h:

Well, first answer this: does your current motor run well?

If the answer is yes, then I wouldn't bother. The d15z1 is so gutless it actually hurts mpg because you have to run it harder just to keep up with traffic. I honestly think a z6 or d15b is capable of just as good mileage. d15z1 + Si/EX tranny might be tolerable, but you'll still have to keep it slow on the highway. :/

ugh. You sound like me when I'm trying to get people to understand that they don't need a new computer because the one they have does what the need. My d15b vtec is fine. :hs:

Well, my tranny is starting to go. It's got the dreaded 3rd gear grind, but it's getting worse. Since it's an Si I guess I think I'm not liking the 5th gear @ 2700rpm doing 65. I think I've brought this up to Tony, but how many guys actually take the 5th gear from a dx/lx and through it in the Si tranny? This is a highway car and I'd like to take advantage.

Well the problem with the vx/cx transmission is that yes, it does have a really tall 5th gear, which is a good thing... but it also has a really tall 3rd and 4th, which is a very very bad thing. It seriously feels like shifting 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th. If you can rebuild your trans with a 5th gear swap, or find someone to do it for a reasonable price, I think that would be a much better solution.

Thanks, Dave. I've been dancing around that for a while and feel I should get it done before my tranny fails completely. I'm sure one of the O.G.'s has enough parts to Frankenstein one together for me.

Is it possible to get the 14" hx wheels to clear the calipers on my Si?
