Default header vs OEM

i really dont give a shiit about my top end(i dont think) i want more torque than anything, right now i have a 4-1 which is for top, if i put on an oem would i gain more torque and run faster in the 1/4 mile?

You're contradicting yourself. You say you don't care about top end, and yet you want to run faster in the quarter mile. To answer your question, no, an OEM manifold will not yield faster quarter mile times. If anything, switch to a 4-2-1 header if you need more torque than you're getting with a 4-1, but looking for torque in a 4cyl Honda is somewhat of a lost cause. By all means, do not switch to an OEM manifold, they're way too constrictive.

Doubt drastic differences would be noticed... and I think 4-2-1 headers are for slightly more torque.... I'd suggest keeping the header, or whichever one is less rusted.

i "heard" with the 4-1 that you loose alot of torque...for a honda alot is bad, since you said we dont have alot N/A. lose of somewhere around 12 ft/lbs. i dunno..

You lose low-end torque, not overall torque. Compromises are made when you start looking for power. A 4-2-1 header is a good middle ground between the restrictive OEM manifold and a torque-compromising 4-1 header.

no way...12 is a big figure.

i would rather have low and mid torque than high end. track times only mean so much.

Do not put the OEM back on, even if their performance differences are not noticable just think of the weight savings! The OEM manny is a heavy *****!

I love this thread, and you know why? I'll give my point of view on this.

I drive a Honda Civic with a 1.6L. Most of us have that or a 1.8L, which also has no torque (relatively.) Some of us have a B20 in our Civics which has more torque, but, ultimately, we still have no torque. (Aside from the Honda Accord V6, Acura TL/CL, etc) I am not looking for torque because I drive a SOHC VTEC which was meant to make power upwards of 5000rpm.

Like inspyral said, "... looking for torque in a 4cyl Honda is somewhat of a lost cause." I tell my friends this all the time. You want torque? 5.0 Mustang. I realize that given all other things equal: torque will win a race. Well, duh, but I drive a 1.6L. Torque is not in my vocabulary.

I don't think we can generalize that 4-2-1 makes more low-mid torque than a 4-1 because I feel that design has more to do with it. Once upon a time, I had scanned articles from a magazine.

You have to copy the link, not the text.

You will lose high-end power, and possibly some throughout the power band.
