Default clicking sound from engine?

hi, i have a 98 civic ex coupe, i am at 130000, and i am having this loud clicking sound from the engine, do i need to get a value adjustment or is it something else?

also i am about time for a major service, should i bring it back to honda, i know they charge alot, but is it worth it?

Very possible that it's the valves, but no way to tell without inspecting it myself. At 130K it's past due for an adjustment anyway, so it's not going to hurt.

Probably your valves.

i had a similar problem with my car clicking from the engine, after i had my valves adjusted it was still present, the mechanic at the honda dealer noticed that there was little pieces of grit and rock on the inside of the belts, after changing them the clicking went away. You might want to check that too. I'll try posting pictures of the rocks embedded in the belts when I get home from work.

I should warn you that a lot of mechanics will tell you this is normal. My friends teg does the same thing. We've adjusted the valves, and it still does it. He took it to one place, and they told him it was the bearing in the distributor. He replaced it, and it still does it. I still think it's something in the valve train, but other than the noise he's had no problems. He runs the hell out of it too! If he can't blow that motor I don't see how anyone can.

cv wouldnt make noise at idle, only while in motion.

i think if not valves you should also check bearings for various things. i would check the alternator and compress/condesor for AC just to be safe.
