You weren't willing to spend a mere $7 to send it back?

Well, good thing friends advised me not to buy it...

Well, OLD or not. Most people purchase their CAI from online or local shops... not direct from AEM... the difference? These shops or stores order in BULK, say 10-20 of each CAI, they won't likely sell them all right away, so if the store ordered the kits in Jan '01 and no one buys it until recent, then the recall would be effective in avoiding a problem. Makes sense. Also, don't know when they discovered it to be a problem, but at least they recognize it.
When something is recalled, they don't just take them back from consumers, they pull them off the shelf.

I still have one brand new in the box. Guess I'll use it for a x-mas tree ornament.

Good thing I read this, I was about to go buy me a CAI with the AEM bypass valve. Thanx for the info, even if the bypass valve was newer, it's always nice to check.

they are all fine now. this was over a year ago that they were recalled.

All the old units are long out of stock and replaced with newer, non-defective units.

No, I'm not gonna spend $7 or whatever of my own money to ship them their defective product back, if they wanted it, they should have arranged for UPS to pick it up. I got my new one, I didn't give a **** if they got their old one.
