Default planning to update internals, and timing belt Q!

1. Just wondering what you're opinions are on aftermarket timing belts ie. gates racing, toda, etc...

Are they truly better then OEM?

2. If I keep my engine I am planning to beef up the head components ie camshafts, cam gears, retainers and V-springs.

As I am planning to get shafts that will require the other components what else would be needed to do the upgrade?

Can I reprogram my existing chip and tune my car properly with out specific cam programming? ie. JUN cam>> Jun map

3. Does anyone have any experience with TODA?

TODA spec B camshafts, retainers, cam gears, valve springs is the setup I am looking at so far.

Thanks guys

You don't really need valve springs and retainers unless you're raising your rev limit, or getting a really aggressive camshaft that could float your valves at the rev limit you've already got. There is no performance gain if you're not doing that, just a lot of $ to say you have it.

Get a Gatorback timing belt if you're not using an OEM Honda belt. I'm not a fan of Gates. Every Gates accessory belt I've ever used has stretched and/or squealed.

I don't have any experience with Toda. All of my camshaft upgrades have been HK$. But if you want a good review on the Toda cam you're considering... after you decide which one you'd like to have, Google the part number and look for forum posts because the only opinions you want that you don't get here will be someone that at least knows which part number is in their car. If you don't find what you need, talk to a machinist that does import engines because they'll remember stuff that gives them trouble at work or that comes back for break/fix repairs.

You won't get the most out of a camshaft upgrade unless you are using an aftermarket intake manifold. The factory intake manifold will probably become a restriction. I didn't replace my intake manifold, but if you've ever seen the intake ports and runners on a 4g63 turbo, you'd know why. The Honda stuff is a lot narrower. I could still benefit, but most intake manifolds for my car that are worth a damn are over $500. That's more than I paid for both cams, and I didn't have it at the time when I built it.

LOLLERSKATES! Wow. I didn't know that. I've never owned a civic with an OEM timing belt. Maybe they make better timing belts than grooved belts and V-belts? Their accessory belts don't last 6 months on my GSX before they squeal uncontrollably... and that motor doesn't leak anything but boost!
