Ok, so I have a 2004 honda civic ex with 80,000 miles (yes, high but i didn't put all those miles on the car). Anyways it sounds funny when it runs and i was told it might be my timing belt. It sounds like it is growling, or like i have a tip on my muffler, which i don't. and the noise is coming from my engine, not the muffler, so i know i dont just have a hole in my exhaust (well at least not in the rear of the car) I am going to take it to the shop, but i just wanted to get some feedback so they don't try to take me for like a grand. It is amazing that i can fix a million dollar aircraft and cant figure out what is wrong with my civic. Pleas any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

your heatshield is probably loose, or the cat. just tighten them bolts up.

 

....crawl under your car and look around while its running. you will be able to tell what it is if its external.
