I'm not going to the dealership to find amber bulbs. Maybe they could tell me what size they were.. but now I only have pictures. I can't believe there isn't anyone that did this on the forum. I guess it's possible they'd have amber bulbs for the SI or something, but I've read it's still a big guess whether they'll fit. I think I'll just give up on this one. Thanks for all the help

I am pretty sure that these aren't 194 bulbs... As you can see from the pictures they have the "two wire prongs" coming from the bulb through the base of the socket. What I did to achieve the amber look is by removing the plastic cover behind the knobs on the left of the CC. I will light up amber. I don't think I messed with the bottom buttons... I can get a picture if needed...

I still want to know what bulbs these are though... my A/C button doesn't light up at night...

I've done a ton of research on those, and if you keep the stock bulbs with paint or if you change the filters on the knobs, the lights will be too dim. No matter what you have to get after market bulbs.

You've got yourself a pretty great intention and I can't really help you out. I've been wanting to do this too and its the only thing that keeps me back. The sizes and whatnot, cuz obviously like you, i wanna do it right.

In for more information thanks

the reason I'm doing all this is because I *thought* it would be a convenient time to change out those bulbs because I had to tear apart my dash to get to the radio for an amplifier install problem. I guess I thought wrong

Oh yeah? Mine aren't dim at all...

These are the best pictures I could get from them... my hands aren't that steady! Pretty bright to me... As you can see the two buttons at the bottom of the CC are out... I need em replaced! Or a highly detailed LED DIY specifically for a 99-00 CC would work

well it's easy to take out the bottom portion of the CC. Easy in terms of me doing it a few times, but you'll have to take out the whole center console. The bottom CC panel is held on by two screws from the back, and you'll have to unplug the harness. There are two bulbs with gray bayonet mounts you stick a flathead in. I don't know how to find replacement bulbs, but as far as changing the colors if you need to, there is filter paper inside the three buttons. They can be pried off the front without even taking anything out. To find out how to remove the center console I used this
http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/466005.pdf
I dont think you can get away with not taking your console out because the access to the bulbs are in the back
You'll have to take out the three bottom panels and unscrew the metal bracket if your radio is installed that way. After that pull the whole thing out. I didn't know if you needed this but I had it linked anyway
if you did LEDs they wouldn't match the other CC controls or your dash. I go to the12volt.com forums to find LED info

Ahh, I already know how to take the CC out... done it a couple times, but I don't know the bulb # to replace it with (hence why I replied to this thread )
