Default Dummy Keys

Hi all,

After locking my keys in my 02 Civic (I know, it's difficult to do) I realized I needed to make a couple extra sets of keys. Since the normal ignition key isn't exactly slim, especially with that big plastic thing on top, I have two questions:

Will Home Depot or whoever make me a "dummy" key without the plastic thing on top, so I can just slip it in my wallet? I know it won't start the engine; I just want to be able to open the door.

Also, where on a Civic would you HIDE a dummy key? The last thing I want is to put one of those magnetic thingies underneath where someone could easily find it. I live in LA. I know better.

Thanks!
Angie

You could possibly hide it behind the license plate (just thought of this).

Depends on the setup on your car, I've never closely examined the 7th gens.

I could be wrong b/c never had spares made myself but they should be able to make a copy of the master key without any plastic crap on top (though I like that) and I'm not sure how it works on those cars but maybe it would start the car too if the original is close enough :hsdunno:

When would that come in handy? If you bent the crap out of the key, don't personally know any honda owners that have managed this though.

Isn't it just a proximity thing?

So if she had the original key w/ the chip on the key chain she could use that spare to open the car and start it?
