Default Help! Lowering 96 civic

Hey!

I'm thinking (well I want to) lower my 96 civic. I was looking into getting some Skunk2 lowering springs (Frt: 2.2 / Rear: 2.0). Would it be safe for me to use my stock shocks and struts? I'm not interested in performance but more a nice clean look. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

it all depends where u live, either way i would not recommend putting any performance spring on a stock strut, especially 2 inch drop or more. Unless u have perfect roads wherever u live, ur stock shocks w/the Skunks will live a surprisingly short life.

If you're still not convinced look at yesterdays thread entitled "Weird Supsension damage".

Perfect road or not, if this is your actual daily driver then don't cheap out and use the stock struts. They will blow out eventually, and probably a lot sooner then you expect. Stock struts are only made to compress so much, and if you have it set near its limit at all times, any use will further abuse it. Not to mention the crappy/bouncy ride as well as the risk of ruining other suspension parts and excessive tire wear.

True...I guess that's not the best idea then! I'm gonna loook into some shocks/struts! Any suggesting on brands not too heavy on the pockets though?

KYB Gr-2's or maybe some Koni Yellow's as far as inexpensive, non-adjustable go.

I hear a lot of people suggest Tokico Illuminas if you're on a tight budget and don't want total crap. But then again your "budget" might be significantly higher or lower then someone else's idea of reasonable. :dunno: Throw out a price range and I'm sure you can get some valuable suggestions.

I would personally not recommend GR-2's, they are very cheap and i heard many people just upgrading to AGX after just a few months. GR-2's are like around 70, but for about 100 bucks u could get AGX, which im not too crazy about either.

:werd: I heard the GR-2s are pretty much an oem replacement and don't really handle any type of drop too well.

And I wouldn't expect you to support the AGX either after your incident h:

i completely agree. if you have smooth rodes and you dont need to go on any gravel. i have sleeves on my coupe and they will literally fuck you if you hit the right size bump.
