Default what do you think about carbon fiber hoods?

I am thinking about getting one because someone scratched my hood, so they'll pay for most of it. Are they legal for street use? Is there a certain kind that is better or worse than others? Has anyone bought one on ebay? thanks!

vis and seibon make some of the better cf products overall but they're pricey. never heard of any legal issues by using one.

there's a few factors that contributed to me disliking carbon fiber hoods:

- the climate in south texas isn't very forgiving. I've seen many hoods become victims to the elements, something to consider if you park your car outside alot. (it all depends on where you live, really)

- I went through 3 different hoods, with varying degree's of fitment. even seeing hoods by vis and other reputable companies, and you can notice minor gap issues. not a big deal really, but to some such as myself, it's annoying. (90% of the reason why I went back to an OEM hood)

- I don't know about anyone else, but I feel I got more people trying to race me on my daily commute more. people either think you're boy-racer, or your hood isn't painted.

but it does weigh less :dunno:

oem please, unless it's actually a lot cheaper for a nice CF (which for how nice it should be to fit properly it might not me), or spend your money on something else.
IMO

Thanks for your replies. From what I've found online, it is a lot cheaper to buy a VIS carbon fiber hood than to replace my hood and get it painted, or even fix the one I have. The bad part is that I only know one place around here to get one (they are really far away and expensive), so my only option is online, and I won't see it in person until it arrives. ( I live in MA). By bad climates do you mean more heat and sun is bad, or is snow and cold bad too?

One company i think people overlook is Fiber Images. They have a few videos of putting their hoods through some crazy shit. A truck running over it, then someone jumping up and down on it..didnt break or even warp.

just because it doesn't break or warp doesn't mean it won't line up right or haze up in 6 months to a year.

if you're looking to save some money, go for it. thats why I went to c/f.

they fade way too fast. get a vented hood fiberglass. me personally, im just gonna get a new OEM hood and take it to an ornamental ironworks and cut the hell out of it.
