Default Electrical problem

Ok this is really weird and I need help.

So here is the story.

I drive a 99 Acura EL 5 spd. About a month ago my windshield wipers did not work. I brought it to a mechanic place (Speedy to be exact) and they told me that wiper transmission needed to be replaced and they replaced it for me.

After replacing it for me about two weeks later I noticed that everytime when I tap or hit my breaks the dashboard lights and headlights would flicker. Sometimes my speedometer would also drop suddenly while driving. When I decided to bring it back to Speedy the car would not start. I ruled out that it was not the alternator because after waiting for a couple of minutes I was able to start it again with no problem. However, when I shut the car off it wouldn't start at all. When I brought it to Speedy they told me it there was a short in the battery so I got the battery replaced. Later that night after picking it up it did the same bloddy thing!!! I brought it back to Speedy and they said they noticed that there was excessive power being drawn from a source but they could not determine exactly where. After a while they noticed everything seemed normal. I decided to bring my car to my Acura Dealer who did an electrical testing and found nothing.

Now a week later after my car was running fine it is doing the same thing!!!! I brought it back to the Acura Dealer this morning but they said they will not be able to look at it until Monday . . . and of course when I brought it to the dealer this morning the car decides to work fine.

So my question::wtf:

I had the same symptoms as you have with the tapping brakes and getting funky power fluctuations-changed out negative batterycable-fixed.
I'll have to search for my own post, but I know the dimmer switch might have been a fix for this also-that friggin thing seems to effect a lot, but now mine only effects the dash lights till I tap it, when it's cold out.
This week I had a no start when the key was turned to start, it would cause all of the electricals to shut down. I finally traced that to an internally corroded positive cable.

So the next time it doesn't start, wiggle the cables alittle and see what happens.

Thanks a lot!! I am going to investigate on that. Now your saying that its internal corroded positive cables? Exactly where did you see the corrosion?

I'm just saying that it could be. On mine, the battery connection is clean, tight and treated with the red spray. I just did this before winter so that was the last place I was looking. I even measured the battery with my meter and it was showing normal. But when I grabbed the cable, everything came to life. The ends near the battery connection are pretty green, so I would imagine that there's enough corosion inside there to cause the loss of current.

I need my car for work Monday also, so I'm going to Autozone to pick up a cable they have for $7 and make it work.

Well tell me how it works out.

I am thinking it could be corrosion misconnection of some wire in my car as well. Here is my reason: My car was working fine before Speedy replaced my windshield wiper transmission with a new one. Furthermore I reven remember the service guy making a comment on how he noticed that lower lining of the car was corroded (close to the windshield trans.) My guess is that either the wiring is corroded or when they hooked up they pinched or kink or accidentally damaged the wire which is why I am getting the shorts.

I'm not sure how hard it is to on your car to remove the cover(s) to get to the wiper motor, but if it looks easy enough remove them and check there. Hopefully you didn't replace the wiper part because of faulty wiring that is still present. Or worse because one of the ball joints popped out.

No my wipers just stopped working all together one night when I was coming home. When I brought it to Speedy they determined the problem being the wiiper transmission.

Gonna have my car looked at this week. I will let you know of the results.

Ok my car decided to die on me again the eve before our snow storm that hit us on Wednesday. It would not start at all and I got fed up and decided to have it towed to this place that my friend recommend me.

Turns out that it was a grounding issue. Apparently the grounding cable from the battery was not connected properly with car itself. The mechanic said that it was somehow yanked or moved (probably when they changed the battery and when they were changing the windshield wiper transmisson. ) My car now runs fine (so far.)

Now the only thing that I have to is get the bloody code for my car stereo
