Default Slight "marble" sound....

Hey guys, I have a 99 civic w/ a d16y7.

The other day I took a late lunch, pulled into the local Burger King and noticed a noise, almost like a marble hopping around. Well, the noise had me scared I had thrown a rod bearing.

Thing is, today I start up my car, and the noise is gone, then slightly there, gone, slightly there. Not as loud as it was the other day to say the least.

So my question is, what attached to the engine could make such a noise? I've engaged AC, no difference(thought maybe a compressor). I dunno what would do this. Could a water pump going bad make such a noise? I would expect overheating if that were the case.

As for another question, anyone have a d16y7 or y8 block laying around?

are you speaking of the heat shield located overtop of the exhaust mani/cat? If so, checked it.
