Default fuel issues, not starting up now...

just a little preface, this weekend i swapped out my gas tank because the 6 bolts on the tank near the fuel pump lid snapped off when the previous owner swapped the fuel pump. gas tank went in relatively smoothly, hooked everything back up but now the car wont start.

so after changing the fuel tank, there was some gas in the lines so it started up but it was idling like crap, and once all that fuel was cycled, now it wont start up at all, it cranks and cranks and sometimes it will turn over for like 1 second and then it keeps cranking..

i also changed the fuel filter, however, the gauge i have on the filter is reading ~38psi which i think was about the same as i had before... cant really remember. i might try the old fuel filter just to rule that out.

is it possible that because the bolts broke, the lid wasnt allowing enough pressure to be created and now it has too much pressure?

its a 92 si, b18c1, has walbro fuel pump, 440cc injectors, generic fpr.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

just to add to this, i went and worked on it again tonight, i tried another fuel filter just to rule that out. same deal. the fuel pump is pressurizing at 38psi, and 41 psi when vacuum is disconnected from fpr (exact spec from honda manual). it seems that gas is making its way into the cylinders, i pulled two plugs and both smelled of gas. ill pull one out tomorrow, and plug a spark plug into it and see if it makes a spark, but i dont see how that happened since the first thing i did was disconnect the battery. no blown fuses.. just took a crap on me.

any ideas?

what kind of gauge are you using? if youre using the b&m one that attaches to the fuel filter, theyre known to go bad. mine did and was always stuck in a certain place. could try putting in a stock fpr just to be sure you got the right fuel pressure.

i dont know what brand the gauge is, but it looks 100% accurate. it goes to 0 when you relieve pressure, and goes to 38 with the vacuum connected to fpr and 41 when you unplug it.

im not sure a stock fpr is a good idea, the fuel system has been remapped, i have hondata s200 with lots of tuning. maybe i can pull out the injectors and see if they are shooting fuel, but it seems more safe to see if the spark plugs are getting spark. ive never had to deal with these issues before, and the manual for eg sucks for this stuff =/

i think that would be the next logical step to check the injectors and spark plugs. hope someone else here can help since i never had these issues myself either. check the distributor cap as well, couldnt hurt

also just for more info, you still running that jackson super charger?

ok crack the line that goes from your filter to your rail, if you've got fuel flow from there then that rules everything back from that point out. Hell you could even pull the whole rail and see if it squirts fuel but be careful, I don't think they'd have enough pressure to hurt you but it is possible. (I know some diesels have enough fuel pressure to slice your skin) Then you can get a spark plug tester :

to rule out a spark problem. And just replace the cap and rotor anyway cause they're cheap. If you can't get started after that i'm stumped too, hope this helps.

thanks so much for the input guys. i actually have pulled the plugs out and they had a distinct gas smell.

i am definitely getting pressure to the filter, but im a little concerned its not making it past the banjo bolt (since its not stock, its a gauge), on saturday im going to use the stock banjo bolt and service bolt, and try spark plugs (from my other civic)

im also going to try pulling a plug wire out, and putting a plug onto it (i should see a visible spark, right?) if all of those dont fix it, im pulling the rail out and squirting fuel.

if that doesnt fix it, im going to burn the car to the ground and get some insurance.. jk but it seems like an easier way out lol

not sure if it is safe to just pull the plug with the wire attached to it and see if it'll spark...the test tool is really cheap and probably made for a reason

just to add to this... i swapped the spark plugs from my other civic today, and its definitely getting spark, and definitely getting fuel, but now its idling like crap, i mean really really bad, barely stays running... and a ridiculous amount of smoke comes out the tailpipe, by ridiculous i mean its like pouring out smoke, its actually funny to watch, im going to record it on video tomorrow to show just how much... it drives though, but it feels like im going to break it or something..

so i think its just running rich or maybe too much fuel is getting injected or something like that, because maybe the fuel pump can push fuel easier.. does that sound right?

the thing thats weird though is the smoke isnt blue, its white, but it doesnt smell like oil... anyway... thoughts, ideas?
