Default short shifters

I've worn out the forum search and google trying to figure this out.

I've read that a dual bend short shifter will put the shift nob in a more stock location and a single bend will move the nob forward. But what I can't seem to find is a decent comparison picture of the stock shifter versus a short shifter. At least for most. I've seen a few comparisons but I can't seem to find a skunk2 compared to stock and some others too. Are all short shifters going to decrease the height of the shifter? I'm lookin at getting a short shifter because I want the shorter throw, but also in hopes that it will help to get the 1,3,5 shift points farther back and closer to me. I'm 6 foot and fifth gear is just about at full extension of my arm because I have to sit far enough back to accomodate my legs. So if a short shifter is just gonna move the shift point down farther its not really gonna help me get 5th gear closer. I've also been looking at shifter extenders. I suppose I could get a short shifter, and then an extender to bring the shift nob back up to stock height, but that seems like it would defeat the purpose of getting a short shifter to begin with. So if anyone has a comparison picture with a stock and short shifter that would be awesome! I'd also like to hear ya'lls opinions on my situation. Or if there is another way to move the shifter back that I haven't looked at please let me know. Oh and before I fogret, I've got a 98 ex.

EDIT: Is it possible to install a single bend short shifter backwards to move the shift nob farther back or would that interfere with the ebrake?

a short shifter (from what i can tell) does not change how high up the shifter knob is in the car it simple makes the distance between the two pivot points shorter thus makins 135 closer to you.

I installed a B&M short shifter about a month ago now and because i couldnt get any dual ben here in aussie land so i was forced to go with a straight one... Now dont get me wrong, this one i have now is as good as a dual bend cos i got what i paid for and its doing the job very well but as you said the gears 1,3,5 seem to go up further than me which is not a big deal but what can you do...

Also it did make the gear stick a little bit shorter by notice and how it works is that the pivot ball to the bottom of the stick is longer than the stock which makes the shorter throws!!!!

I suggest you get one from ebay for a cheap price and see how you go with them and then decide if you want a dual bend or straight which i should've done from the start but i just got what i got now!!!

I have the skunk2 dual bend in a eg now, and it seems as the shifter isn't shorter than the stock one , which I wanted it to be. I've also had the skunk2 single in a ek and it did seem shorter. I think that 135 will be close to you because with a short shifter your arm doesn't travel as much as with the stock one, so you may not have to extend all the way.

Sweet, I've been thinkin that skunk2 was what I wanted to get. So on your dual bend did it shorten the throw, or does it seem like its the same? And yes 135 will be closer with a short shifter, but if its just gonna move the shift knob down away from my shoulder its sorta defeating the purpose of moving 135 back. Either way, it sounds like the skunk2 is the one fo me. time to do a little more research and find me a decent package deal on the shifter and weighted knob. Though it would be killer to find a black boot with green stitching to go along with it.

i just put the dual bend skunk2 shifter in my car before christmas, the gears seem ALITTLE shorter, and the shifter knob now sits about 1-1.5cm back alittle more, and puts 5th/reverse way out to the right, i like it so far. and i got it brand new for $100 off ebay
