Windows '99 Civic
My Civic is having window problems. In cold weather or during rain the window motor works but it runs slow, or throws the window off track. I just pulled the door panel off about a month ago and set the window back on track and this a.m. it went off again. This is on my drivers side. The regulator seems to be working, just the window is off track. The passenger is also having the slow response problem during rain. Is there another fix besides changing the entire regulator? Does the regulator need to be oiled or something? Or do I need to just bite the bullet and take it into the shop for an entire new regulator? Thanks.
Well, called a buddy. He suggested using "powdered graphite" on the tracks and joints to help lubricate. He said other lubricants such as WD-40 actually seize up in cold, this won't. It's in a small tube but am told a little goes a long way. Hope this works. Still want input if any one else has had this issue.
This is one of the common problems for older generation Honda's. Your buddy was right in suggesting to keep the tracks lubed.

Okay, first the powder is called "Graphite Lube" by Qualco. I simply bought it at my locate Auto Zone. We got the door panel off and after playing with the window for quite a while was able to get the window back in track. For anyone who's never done that before, know that there is a "sweet spot" the window needs to be at to get it into track the best. About an inch above bottom was what worked for us. So we rolled the window up and down several times and it fell off track again. The Auto Zone worker told me a little goes a long way with the lube. But it fell off track several times. I kept working the window up and down until it went several times in a row without falling off track. I'm hoping that fixes it. I still want anyone elses input on this matter since once this cold weather blowes through I have to do the passenger side also.
