i just got an OEM si strut bar that requires drilling into my engine bay (there are slots where i need to drill). for those who have done this, is there anything i need to know before i start drilling a hole and bolt it up? do i need specific bolts?

 

u have to drill to install the strut bars? i thought there were already bolts to install..???

 

yes... some don't require drilling. this is where i need to drill at and what the ends of the strut bar looks like.

As long as you got the Si strut bar for free than its worth putting holes in it.

 

slow speed with some motor oil on the drill bit tip helps. i used 8mm bolts 20mm long, used a big washer under the fender

 

do some research on properly jacking the car up to install the strut bar.

 

i'll be using 10mm bolts and why do i need to jack up the car to do this?

 

I've never done this, but I think you're gonna have to take the fender wells off to put the washer and nut on the bottom of the bolt. This thread just reminded me to do that NOW, since mine are off.

 

Technically it's not a strut bar, because a strut bar tie's your struts together, where as this is more like an upper sway bar or body brace.
But yea, DEF put some oil on the bit so u dont ruin it. Should be fine tho. are you talking about 10mm bolts or the head on the bolt is 10mm?
