As mentioned the D16 engines are way under rated. No, you probalby won't be running 12's in your daily driver, but for someone like me, having a low-to-mid 15-second daily driver is fine. I really would like to get a port and polish and cam, too. I bet I'd be in the high 14's which would be fast enough for me.
People dog the SOHC motors because they're not "plug and play," meaning that it actually takes some work to unlock their potential. But I assure you that it'll be cheaper for me to to bolt stuff onto my D16 and run low 15's than it would to do a B16 swap and do the same. (I got my stuff used from a friend, so I didn't pay much for I/H/E.)
