pull the ecu fuse, dissconnect the plugs to the distributor. Pull all the spark plugs. Put the gauge in the cylinder and turn motor over 4 times, watch gauge.

or you can just pull the fuel pump fuse....but whichever works. Also from my experience you have to turn it over more than 4 times. I didn't get full compression when i only turned it over 4 times...i think i usually do about 6.

j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:09 PM]: ughhh
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:09 PM]: have you never changed out a fuse?
X oc civic X [4:09 PM]: sure
X oc civic X [4:09 PM]: they are normally marked
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:09 PM]: duh'
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:09 PM]: they are all marked :-)
X oc civic X [4:10 PM]: oh ok
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:10 PM]: just look on the little plastic sheet in your fuse box that tells you which fuse is what
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:10 PM]: i think the fuel pump fuse is near the middle
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:10 PM]: anyways....just pull it out
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:10 PM]: so now you have the compression tester screwed in....the fuse pulled
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:11 PM]: anyways....at this point put your car to the on position
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:11 PM]: and try and start it
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:11 PM]: it will sound like it's trying to start but it won't be able to cause it has no fuel
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:11 PM]: hold the key on like you're trying to start the car
X oc civic X [4:11 PM]: ok cool
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:12 PM]: for about 6-7 clicks
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:12 PM]: u know how it sounds like when you are trying to start a dying car
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:12 PM]: and it won't start
X oc civic X [4:12 PM]: yeah
X oc civic X [4:12 PM]: definately
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:12 PM]: just hold it like that for a few seconds and at least 6 clicks
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: there are 3 rows of fuses right
X oc civic X [4:16 PM]: yeah
X oc civic X [4:16 PM]: maeks sense
X oc civic X [4:16 PM]: sounds familiar
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: like
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: XXXXXX
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: XXXXXX
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: XXXXXX
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: 3 rows of fuses
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:16 PM]: and some spare fuses off to the side
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: the fuel pump fuse is in the MIDDLE ROW
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: and it's 2nd from the very left side
X oc civic X [4:17 PM]: ok coool
X oc civic X [4:17 PM]: thats easy
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: it's a 15A
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: correct....
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: i forgot how many holes there are in each row of fuses
X oc civic X [4:17 PM]: what kinda numbers am i looking to see on the testor
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: i got 190
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:17 PM]: 's
X oc civic X [4:17 PM]: all the way across
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: just make sure you get within 10 of each cylinder
X oc civic X [4:18 PM]: how much
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: yah i got pretty much 190 all teh way
X oc civic X [4:18 PM]: ok
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: but yeah that's pretty much it
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: just make sure you click it over enough times
X oc civic X [4:18 PM]: so like 188-198 would be ok
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: or you'll get low compression numbers
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: yeah 188-198 is borderline
X oc civic X [4:18 PM]: my friend said 7-9 times
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: yeah usually within 5
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:18 PM]: but 10 isn't too bad
X oc civic X [4:18 PM]: what is the "norm"
X oc civic X [4:19 PM]: like 190? 200?
j k a n 2 0 0 1 [4:19 PM]: around 190, 190, 190, 190

maybe if someone needs a slightly more detailed explannation they will find this thread by using the search feature...

Ummmm, if it doesn't build in 4 strokes, you've got problems. 4 turns always works for me, whether it be a v8 or a 4 cyl. I got 205 in the B18C and 195 in the d16z on 4 cranks.

probably depends on your compression tester also....in any case we've always had to do about 6. When we did 4 on my friends JRSC prelude it didn't go up to the other cylinder #'s so we did it again with a few extra cranks and they were all within 5 of each other.

That's because it was having problems building compression. Not a serious issue. And if 1 cylinder didn't go up, you probably have a sticking valve. You don't keep cranking on it till it gets up to a number you like, that's why you do the test.

you also got problems if the cylinders don't have basically the same compression

if you have low compression how do you fix it? i haven't done a compression test in a long time
