Any bearing set will go bad when it doesn't have the lubrication it needs to reduce friction and dissipate heat.

Since as you say, the transmission was dry... the source of the grinding noise seems rather obvious. :hsugh:

I understand any bearing can go bad but anyone got any ideas or have similar problems?

Default Similar problem

My Integra was totaled, so i found a 97 civic ex. Though it has 185K it's perfect, single older female owner and all hwy miles.

It does seem to "tick" in 1st and 2nd gears, upon accelerating and decelerating. My acura had 185K same clutch no problems, this is the orig clutch too. Clutch pedal has a lot of play which i need to adjust, and the shifter seems to move when engine reving. Shifting is smooth. Other then that there doesn't seem to be any clutch concerns besides the ticking "< 40 MPH ".
