Default civic a/c problem

I have a 99 civic dx and the other day it just stopped blowing cool air and started blowing hot air. I went and bought a recharge kit and tested the pressure as they tell you to do at the low line and found that I have just over 100 psi at that point. Any ideas as to what is wrong? Am I screwed because my compressor is shot or could it be something else? And is it best to get this problem fixed at the dealer or go to an independant a/c dealer. ANy help would be appreciated.

Default Suggest you diagnose at dealer and fix yourself

My rule-o-thumb was when my A/C went, I KNEW it was the compressor (metal shavings came out like chaf when I evacuated the high-side). I replaced the compressor and dryer, and flushed the heck out of the Condensor lines.

When the system stopped cooling again a few months later, I couldn't figure it out and paid the dealer for a diagnosis. They said the Meter Valve and Evaporator had to go, so I evacuated the system again and replaced that stuff. Then I had vacuum pulled and got things recharged at a local shop with the equipment. Been running now for a while.

If your not SURE what it is, I suggest you take it to the dealer or a speciality A/C shop you can trust and get it diagnosed. Then do the work yourself if you feel capable.
