1999 Civic LX keyless entry question
Hey guys I have been reading this forum a little bit and have searched through posts about keyless entry installations. I have a 1999 Civic LX Sedan that does NOT have keyless entry on it. I would like to install a keyless entry system on the car but I have been reading that you have to have the stock head unit to install a keyless entry system (at least on some models?). Is this true for the 99 year Civics? Also, what kind of keyless entry systems would you recommend? I don't need an alarm, and am looking to spend less money than more on this system. Is the installation difficult?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I went over to handa accessories and I was reading about the 1999 LX models... It says
Genuine Honda Civic keyless entry kit. Adds remote locking and unlocking of doors along with panic feature that sounds horn and flashes lights when pressed. Includes 2 remotes, fits 1999-2000.
All of the HX and the LX models have the receiver installed at the factory. There is nothing to install into vehicle. Simply program the remotes to your Civic by turning the ignition on and off and pressing the lock/unlock buttons. The keyless entry on the 1999-2000 Civics is not connected to the factory radio in any way.
Is this true, I don't have to install anything, I just need to buy a remote and program the remote to make it work?

So could I just buy a remote off of ebay then as well? I'm sure I could find them cheaper on Ebay but would they work? I'm not too worried about an alarm as this vehicle will be sitting in my family's driveway for 9 months of the year while I am at school. I will only be driving it on the weekends and will not be parking it in any dangerous areas. (I live in Suburbia)
you should be good with just a remote for a civic of those years off ebay or wherever
they can all be programmed to your car just fine
the 1996-98 civic lx and ex have it in their radios, they changed it for the next models
i have a 1997 ex and bought a remote of ebay, it worked fine until i fried my radio, my own fault, so i am pretty sure you should be fine
good luck
