Default Choosing a transmission?

Hey guys i have a 97 civic ex w/ a d16y8, but the car is an auto. I'm going to switch out the trans to a manu., but i was wondering which trans i should look at for the switch. Also i was doing some searches, and in a post i read something about the vx trans having longer gears, and i was wondering would this be a good thing or bad? i would apperciate all the input guys.

Will this be your daily driver? The vx tranny is best on the highway, not so good for city and rush hour/stop & go traffic conditions. What's wrong with just getting a manual ex tranny? In mixed (city & highway), I'm getting 34 mpg with mine.

hey guys thanks for the suggestions, and more than likely this will be a daily driver right now, and possibly a track car later. Anymore suggestions keep them coming.

It depends on what you want. The d16z6 si tranny will be the fastest (shortest) and the ex will be second. The rest will be geared longer (slower) but maybe yield a little bit better gas mileage.

the EX and Si tranny are the same thing. the best tranny for fuel mileage would be either the CX or HX tranny. next up would be the DX tranny, and then the EX/Si would be the shortest geared tranny.
