Default CEL distributor problem

I recently tried to unplug the distributor wires. Of the 2 plugs, I managed to rip out 3 of the wires that go into the bigger plug - I ripped out the end that is connected to the distributor. (I did get it unplugged eventually) I shoved them back in, but now my engine light is on - code 9 - CYP sensor which is in the distributor. So, I figure it's because I ripped out those wires accidently. Is there a good way to put those wires back in so they have a solid connection? Should I consider splicing the wires together and bypass the plug alltogether? Or should I hunt for a used/reman'd distrib? Thanks for any ideas!
