Did you reconnect the shift linkage? Are the axles all the way in the tranny?

Yes, linkage is connected. I believe the axles are all the way in the tranny. how can i tell? They come back out, but i feel friction.

My money is on the axles not being all the way in. If you go under there and see any space between the inner joint on the axle and the tranny then it's not all the way in. One popping out will not allow you to move the car so it might be one or the other and not both.

Gotcha. I really pushed them in hard. How should i get them closer? (i think this might be the problem) Big rubber hammer on that inner hub? Should they be rather difficult to snap in?

I use a mini sledge hammer to tap (yes TAP) mine in. Just be sure not to over whack them or you could do real damage. Once the tapping gets to a more deep pitch and it's not moving anymore, you're in.

I hit on the end of the axle, btw.

awesome. it'll click in once it goes past the new retainer right?

on a side note, the tranny still makes noise, so i'll probably end up replacing that within the year too
