I've worked on EK ones, but I imagine EG's are fairly similar. You disconnect positive and negative terminals on your battery. Wait at least 3 minutes for all the electronics to run out of power. There's a cover on the bottom part of the steering wheel. Pull the cover off, there's a big yellow plug. Disconnect it short it out (my EK has automatic shorting plugs, I think older EK's, and probably EG's, had a red short plug you plugged into the airbag). And then you can take it out. It's pretty much the same procedure for the passenger side bag, but the plugs are under the dash.

You can remove the fuses too. The Honda service manual doesn't mention it, but it couldn't hurt. The biggest thing is unplugging the battery, and shorting the plug once the airbag is unplugged. I think the biggest risk removing the airbag is accidentally static shocking the airbag plug.

Edit: And waiting the 3 minutes. That was noted in bold in the service manual.

I have no idea. But disconnecting the battery basically does the same thing.

How do you short the plugs? I have a 95 Civic and need to replace the bag also.

Why would you want to remove a SAFETY device?
I know because if the air bag didnt go off in my friends car my ass would of been tossed out the windshield.
I think a broken nose is far better than being killed.
