Default vtec or not

ok I have a 99 honda civic ex. On the block it says it is a D16Y7. Have seen people say that this is non-vtec. THat the D16y8 is the vtec one. But it has the vtec selonoid by the valve cover. SO is it a vtec?

If it is an EX and has a Y7 in it, the motor isn't the original motor. EX's came with D16Y8's.

If it has the vtec solenoid, it may have a mini-me swap to it.

So is having a mini-me swap a bad thing. And could this be causing problems. The problem that I have is this jerking problem. But first I will tell you about what all I have.

I have had my car for a year now. It is a 99 civic ex with a 5 speed. I will be driving it and the check engine light will come on. THe code that it is reading is a idle air control valve error. Now from what I have read the cars idle should raise and lower when you have a problem with the IACV. But it does not, what it does is every time I touch the gas pedal the car kind of jerks and then it will do the same when I let off the gas pedal. But if I push in the clutch it will not jerk when I let off of the gas and push in the gas.

So I took off the IACV and cleaned it really good. It still did the problem. So I broke down and got a new one for 170 and put it on. It still does it. SO I dont think that it could be the IACV.

It also starts to do this problem and throw the code when I make tight corners like u turns.

Could this mini me swap be causing this?

I have heard that the tps could be causing this as well. How much do they cost for a new one. I now that they are rivoted on the throttle body and need to be calibrated. Would it be better to just get a new throttle body?

Sorry for all the dumb questions but this problem has been plaging me since I got the car.

Usually if you have a bad o2 sensor it will throw a code for the IACV.

A mini-me swap isn't a bad thing (as long as it was done correctly). What it means is basically your engine is a frankenstien engine. It is a D16Y7 with either a D16Y8 or D16Z6 vtec head on it (assuming it is in fact a mini-me swap). Have any pictures of it?

I don't see this causing your problems though. Lots of people have done this swap without problems.

Im having the exact same problem, the jerking. If im in 2nd gear at 2500-3000 rpm, if I push the gas in, it jerks, and same with letting go of the gas. Feels like the whole engine moves back and forth. It's not the TPS, I change my TB and I still get the same problem.

I don't have any pictures now but I can get some of it tomorrow.

Could the o2 sensor be causing it to jerk like that.
