2 hours for the first time? It took me 45 minutes just to clean up the surfaces of the head and block-the last gasket used was really bonded to the surfaces. I took my time and spread it out over two days.
yeah I dunno...I have pulled alot of honda and other heads so maybe I am under estimating how much time it would take for the first couple times...:dunno:

Hmmm, I will plan on at least 4 hrs then

How long should I let the engine cool down for? It will take me 45 min and 40 miles to get to his place.

let it cool down for as long is it takes before you can reach around and undo bolts without yelling "ahh shit..ah..shit..hot" h:

but no you should let it get cool to the touch so that all the metals have contracted back to their natural resting. I dont know if technically it matters, but I always let things cool back down to their resting "form" before I start attacking...at least the head....as far as exhaust manifold and other fun stuff you have to disconnect before you can get into the valve cover/head bolts you can start that other shit as soon as you feel comfortable touching the motor.

Do I need new head bolts (they are the originals) ??? If so, where can I get them during the day tomorrow?

Thanks a lot again!

Yeah, not sure about the tty (torque-to-yield) head bolts either.......but I only want to do this job ONE time and do it right!

I have decided to order the parts (gaskets and ARP head studs) from Summit Racing. They are cheaper than the local Honda dealer and I can reuse the ARP studs if I HAD to

Is there a specific person I should ask for? I read somewhere that there is a HAN discount available

Thanks again everyone! I will let you know how everything turns out.

Take care,

When I did my head gasket a few weeks ago the head bolt question came up. I was told that if you don't angle torque the bolts they are not TTY and can be reused. These bolts are not angle torqued, so I reused them.

Although I did find out then that when I did my 85 BMW about 6 years ago I should have replaced the bolts since they are angled torqued. Oh well, so far so good!

m735is,

I recall reading your post about your head gasket and reusing the old head bolts. What engine was this again? And how many miles? Project went well? Lastly, how long did it take you?

Thanks again!
