Default Best Civic $4,000 can buy???

Alright first of all, very nice forum and I;m very glad I found it. Eeryone seems great and helpful.

On to the topic, I know NOTHING about cars, at all... I'm only 16 and a Junior in high school. I do have a part-time job, but it doesn't pay atoo good well and I have some other stuff to pay.

Recently I discovered that well... I need a car. My parents said that they would help me some but it's still my responsability to pay. My range is about $3,000-$4,500 so of course I'm going to get something used. After reseaching a bit and asking some people around I've come to the conclusion that a Honda Civic is my best bet.

I need a car that- looks decent and kinda nice. A car that is reliable and won't leave me stranded on the road. A car that doesn't use gas like crazy. A car that can last me a few years until I can get a real job and have more money. Basically, a decent car that I can use to get around town to do what I need to do. I will use it most of the time but my parents will also use it from time to time. We are a family of 4(mom, dad, me, and baby sister), so a 4-5 passanger car will be good.

A civic seems to fit with this... right? Well, this is why I came for you'r help guys. What Civic shoudl i get? What year and model? Remember, I really don't know much at all about cars so don't say some weird thing I won't understand Any and all suggestions will be greatly apreciated.

if you have to pay for gas get a 92-95 cx.... can get up to 40 mpg if you drive like a sissy. but youll pretty much have to... they're not fast. but still fun and it will last long because theres barely anything in it to break.

if u want possible problems you could get a used 92-95 Civic with a B16 Swap for 3-4K atleast in AZ *yes ive seen them*

but really reliability is what you need... and you a good EX with decently low miles are everywhere just look

Someone pointed out on another forum that it looked like the car was owned by a teenager, so it was best to avoid the vehicle.

I wouldn't let the miles be a worry. That is nothing for a properly maintained Civic - problem is finding out if it was. I would ask to take the car for a test drive and take it to a mechanic. Get them to look over the car and see what (if any) problems it has or soon will have. It is worth the money the mechanic will charge. If it needs a little work, just bargain with the dealer to either fix it, or take it out of the price. Good luck.

If I could do it all over again, Id buy either a 89-91 civic hatch/crx or a 92-95 civic si hatch
then save the rest of my money for engine swap, build, turbo
