Default New clutch but now transmission leaks

A while back I bought a 91 civic dx with 240k, the previous owner said that the clutch was bad but that the transmission was fine. Anyways it sat for about 6 months while I was planning on putting in a new clutch. I'd just start it every now and then to keep the battery going. Didn't really have any noticeable leaks under it. Finally had a new clutch and flywheel put in it today at a local shop. When I went to pick it up they told me that hardly any oil came out when they drained the tranny but some pieces of metal did come out. After they put the tranny back on and filled it with oil it started to drip oil. They said that the metal pieces looked like they were from a bearing inside the tranny where the axle fits and that I may be in trouble. They told me to keep a close eye on the transmission for the next couple of weeks. After I drove it home and let it sit for a couple of hours there was a good sized puddle under the car. I've tried to search but only found a couple of references to the "differential bearing" but nothing as to how difficult to replace if that is the culprit. Any ideas?? Should I be actively looking for a used tranny?? Thanks for your input.

So it didn't leak, you take it to a garage and now it does? I'd look more into that than how to fix the leak.

find out where it is coming from. wipe down your tranny clean......and look later. stick cardboard under the car. only a couple places where it would leak. more then likely halfshaft seal. i forget the "proper term". or possible it is leaking from where the shift linkage connects to the trans. (hopefully not since you would need to take the trans apart). the shop has a good argument by saying you had no fluid in the beg....so dont go that route. even if you put a new diff in.....it still would leak. there is a seal somewhere that is broken. (or crack...but highly doubt that)

Put an oil drain pan under it last night and just now put it up on jacks so I could get under to wipe it down and see where it is leaking from. It is leaking at a pretty good rate, a good drop every about 10 seconds. The oil drain pan has a good amount of oil in it now (about 20 hours later).

It looks like it is definately leaking from where the drivers side axle shaft goes in, so I'm guessing it may stop when the oil level reaches that height. Thoughts anyone?

it will stop when it reaches that height but that height is to low. replace that seal. take off wheel.....loosen half shaft nut (good luck )......take off either upper or lower balljoint or both......outer tie-rod.....then get a breakerbar in between the inner shaft and the tranny. try to "pop" (not pry) halfshaft out of tranny. do they same thing for the seal (pop with screwdriver). put new seal in.....with a block of wood covering all the surface of the seal...and lightly tap the seal flush. good luck
here...try this....good wite up and how to....https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...d.php?t=173647

Got it all pulled apart, got the parts and had an unbelievably hard time getting that new drivers side oil seal seated. I'm trying to finish up now but I don't have the torque specs for a 91 civic. Does anyone have them handy???

Torque:
1. Castle nut to ball joint?
2. Lower control arm bolt & nut?
3. Axle nut?

thanks....

Thanks for all the input waaBaah Got it all put together tonight, now I'll just keep an eye on it to make sure the other side doesn't start to leak.

thanks again
