New clutch but now transmission leaks
A while back I bought a 91 civic dx with 240k, the previous owner said that the clutch was bad but that the transmission was fine. Anyways it sat for about 6 months while I was planning on putting in a new clutch. I'd just start it every now and then to keep the battery going. Didn't really have any noticeable leaks under it. Finally had a new clutch and flywheel put in it today at a local shop. When I went to pick it up they told me that hardly any oil came out when they drained the tranny but some pieces of metal did come out. After they put the tranny back on and filled it with oil it started to drip oil. They said that the metal pieces looked like they were from a bearing inside the tranny where the axle fits and that I may be in trouble. They told me to keep a close eye on the transmission for the next couple of weeks. After I drove it home and let it sit for a couple of hours there was a good sized puddle under the car. I've tried to search but only found a couple of references to the "differential bearing" but nothing as to how difficult to replace if that is the culprit. Any ideas?? Should I be actively looking for a used tranny?? Thanks for your input.
