Default valve cover???

I am really confused about this. All VTEC motors say "VTEC" on the valve cover, but my D16y8 valve cover doesn't. Is it suppose to say "VTEC" on the valve cover of a D16y8 engine??? This is the stock engine in my 96 civic ex. Any info on this would be great.

not ALL sohc vtec engine valve covers have "VTEC" on them. there are other ways to find out if the engine has vtec. one is the vtec solenoid. other would be engine block code.

For the 92-93 D16Z6 SOHC VTEC engines, the valve covers have just the Honda on them.

For the 94-95 D16Z6 SOHC VTEC engines, the valve covers have the VTEC on them.

Honda changed again with the 96-00 SOHC model valve covers, and the D16Y8 say Honda again, instead of having VTEC on the cover. But if you have an EX, yes you have VTEC, valve cover or not.

using this thread to its fullest advantage....

is it possible to put a V-Tech labled valve cover on a non V-tech motor? I got a B18B motor and I want to put the V-Tech valve cover on it because it has the center cover for the wires. It would be even nicer to know if they sell a valve cover that does not have V-Tech on it and still retains the spark plug wire cover.

no valve covers on VTEC motors can not be swapped onto non-VTEC motors..

Maybe if they made a "V-TecH" motor you could do that though...

My valve cover has 1.6 Vtec Honda Motor Co. on it. It's a 1999 EL. If you want, you could order one from Canada. Contact Acura2000 if you're interested.
