Default changing auto trans fluid tomorrow

I did a search but Just want to make sure a got it right. I have an 01 civic and basically all I need to do is drain old fliud and put 3 new qts in right?

ANd what do you guys do with old fliud? Can I throw it in with my used oil?

You should really change the filter and use a pump when doing an auto trans flush. Without the pump, youre only going to get like 2/3 of the old fluid out...and really, whats the point then? This is why shops charge nearly $100 for this job...personally, I think its worth it, since it includes the fluid, filter, and labor.

It isnt really oil, so you cannot put it with regular oil...call a few shops and see if they'll take it.

Civics don't have a replaceable transmission fluid filter.

A three quart drain and refill is normal service procedure for younger cars.

A DIY trans flush involves three or four drain&fill cycles, along with some driving time between. It's definately easier with the machine.
