sorry if i'm coming off like a dick, but i realllllly hate how people just automatically assume vtec is some magical thing. it's not, it's just another cam profile set for higher RPM air breathing.

Exactly, instead of your car having a hard time breathing in higher rpm, the vtec just helps it breath better.
