FYI: I contacted Larry Hopkins Honda in Santa Clara, CA and I was told that my fuel filter never needed to be replaced. "What the . . . ?", almost slipped out of my mouth over the phone. I asked for the tech to repeat what he said, "The fuel filter is good for the life of the vehicle." Hmmm, I just wonder if this guy is looking forward to replacing fuel pumps down the road.

 

edit: Fuel filters should be replaced every 60K miles. Check your maintanence schedule.

 

NOTE: The replacement of the fuel filter is not mentioned in the Maintenance Schedule section of the Civic 1998 owner's manual.

 

I just checked both my Owner's Manual, and my Honda Service Manual for a 92 civic. They both say to replace the fuel filter every 60K or 4 years, which ever comes first. I don't know why a 98 civic would be different.

edit: If it needs to be replaced, replace it. It is a friggen $20 part, and easy to do yourself.

 

I wouldn't think that it's any different but it is CLEARLY not in my 1998 Owner's Manual. Perhaps, that's why the tech at Larry Hopkins Honda in Santa Clara, CA stated that it's good for the life of the vehicle. However, I still think it should be replaced.

 

i replace my 98 teg fuel filter every 60,000. just replace it.

 

And he is telling you when u should be replacing it, if its in your manual or not. Whats the arguement here?

 

Really, its a simple concept that should and needs to be followed for proper performance.

 

My fuel filter has been changed once in 426,500 miles. I think that one time was because I was just looking for stuff to spend money on and change. You could: a) change it if you want, "$20 part" OR b) save your money and wait until it needs to be changed because of poor acceleration.

I was going to change mine the other day when I did the engine swap and the rest of everything else. The fitting was really tight so I said to myself, 'Screw it, I'll wait until it needs it. This one works just fine'.

As far as I know, all the fuel pumps are before the filter anyway. A clogged fuel filter wont harm a fuel pump (I guess unless the restriction puts to much pressure on it, doubt it).
