Default Civic Paint

What's up guys. I have a black Honda Civic and the car looks like shit because of all of the "swirls" scratches on the car. I don't know where this came from but was wondering if there was anything out there that is cheap that could "cover up" this problem.

Take it to a pro. I'm sure if you just have swirls they can buff it right out.

Spider web swirl marks can be easily buffed out with something like 3M Fineese-it ll, it's a polishing compound. Light scratches too, but some may need a heavier rubbing compound (caution using this stuff and an electric buffer, it doesn't take much to burn through the paint). Then wax it up.

If you decide you want to paint, I have black paint, reducer, hardener, and primer. I bought it for my old car but then I killed it. PM if you're interested, but ti doens't sound like you need to paint really.

On this topic.. my car is red and the previous owner thought that leaving it under the sprinklers in his front yard constituted as "washing it". ...of course it doesn't appear to have EVER been waxed. Anyway, the paint seems to have faded (almost to a dark pink... :ghey: ) pretty badly. Anyone have enough experience to know if this can be rubbed out or am I looking at a new paint job?

Same thing with the buffer, but start with the rubbing compound.

Wash
Compound
Wash
Glaze (finer compound)
wash
Wax

Using a buffer can be really easy or it can burn through, just be careful around corners and don't leave it there too long.

Sometimes the paint is too far gone, but I've gotten good results with quite a few cars, especially red.

you wouldn't need to repaint the black... only the clear in this case. you could wetsand the clear down, which would help cut down on the swirls, spray the new clear, wetsand that, and buff.

very good advice. espeacially be carefull on corners & such. clear is thinner in these spots, and you'll burn through prolly down to the primer coat. take your time, and try not to rush. if it is too far gone, you should look into repainting. any pics? may be easier to advise further w/ pics of the red...
