Need some buying advice from a possible dealer '06 Civic Ex Sedan
Hey all,
First time posting here and what great forums.
My wife and are serious buyers looking for a Honda Civic. We found a 2006 Civic EX Sedan and really like the car. Great features, Saftey and value. But the sticker is $19,600.00 and the dealer is not wanting to budge.
My wife and I both work at Goodyear Tire and we are eligable for supplier discounts for all GM, Ford, Chrysler, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Audi & Volkswagon. For $20,000.00+ (after tax title, license) we can get into alot more car.
So my question is, if I may ever be so bold to do so is, how much room does a dealer really have on these cars when it comes to price. We can easily afford the car at sticker and many people would ask, what is the problem then, but I am also very frugal (not cheap in anyway), or a smart buyer. I now we would be getting a great car, but for that kind of money we could easily get a Mitsubishi Outlander with 4wheel drive, auto, and all the bells and whistles for less than the price of a '06 Civic EX.
There are 2 other Honda dealerships worth driving too that we want to go to, but I would like to have a little ammo as to how much a dealer can really move when it comes to price. Any info is much appreciated.

A dealer, depending on the price of the car, usually has a cushion about 8-15% on their own factory brand new cars unless they are all ready priced low. It won't be easy budging them on a 2006 model. Try budging them on a 2005 and you will have a lot to negotiate.

Is the invoice price that is reflected on Yahoo Auto's correct. They say that the average invoice for a '06 EX Sedan is $17,422.00. Is that accurate or a good guess...?

$17,422 seems like a good guess. To exactly know, you would have to work in Finance for that peticular dealer. Another thing is, cars in different areas of the USA, sell differently. A Civic in Los Angeles won't be the same as a Civic in Kansas. Take $17.4K and try and work off of it. Go see that guy at the dealer you were at before and if he doesn't budge, make the drive, see if the next dealer/salesperson you talk to is willing to make the sale. This salesperson doesn't seem desperate for the money like most due. good luck

i used to work for dodge. all i know is i always had about $1,500 - $2,500 to work with when it came to selling a car. Like i said, it is hard to talk down on a 2006 that is why i suggested a 2005 and talk down. price management on a 2006 is just like that of a 2005, they are just sold easier, so they aren't as willing to drop the price. if you find a money hungry salesperson though, they will sell it or beat any price.
