Iacv is located on the back of the intake manifold - it has 2 coolant lines connected to it, and an electrical connector. Remove it from the manifold and clean it w/ carb cleaner. That should help the idle

If youre not sure what the tapping is (and it could be valves) you should not attempt to fix this yourself - you can really screw it up worse, if you dont know what youre doing.

When did you install the motor, usually if it was recent, it'd take about a week or two for that erradic revving to go away, it's normal. Also happens when I reset my ECU.

I have the same motor and the same problem. I didnt know you can clean that, I'm going to try it becuz my car idles high in neutral when the car is moving but it comes down when I come to a complete stop.

It could be the IACV, the thermo valve, or air in the coolant system. If you have eliminated those, you may want to start troubleshooting the electrical (broken/shorting wires). Also, check the vacuum lines.

My car had a lumpy idle and stalled when coming to a stop. Then the speedo would intermittently stop working. I checked all of the above, then replaced the engine wire harness. Expensive? Yes. However, I was never happy with the way the wiring ended up after my B18C swap so I finally had a good excuse to put in a new engine wire harness. Now she purs like a kitten. No stalls, no spaztic gauges, no loping idle. Wish I had done it sooner.

torx? no, just remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the iacv onto the manifold - spray cleaner into the screened area
