Default Keyless entry stopped working

My wifes '97 Civic LX remote for keyless entry stopped working. I have tried new batteries in two different remotes. I tried programming them using the owners manual instructions with no success. I tried disconnecting the main car battery to reset everything. Nothing seems to work. I cannot find an alarm "brain" unit anywhere to hit a reset button. Anyone have a clue how to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

Well my aftermarket alarm stopped working too - when I replaced the batteries and still didn't work I knew it was the remote. Sometimes the buttons on the remote just wear out.

OK, thanks. I will try to unplug the head unit. Not sure if that will reset anything. I don't think it is the remote buttons because I have tried two different remotes.

that could cause your head unit to ask you for a factory reset code once you attempt to turn it back on. :dunno:
