Digital tach for engine analysis
Does anybody know of a decent tach that I can either plug into the tach service connector or use under the hood to help set the idle speed? I'd much prefer a digital tach to do that instead of trying to guess what the RPM is by looking at my dash tach that doesn't have ANY marks between 500-1000 RPM.
Do the inductive tachs work well? There's several of em on eBay, and supposedly they work much like a timing light.
Sears has an "Engine Analyzer" that has a bunch of different testing functions, but the product description on the website isn't very detailed at all, and I can't tell from the picture how it hooks into the car to measure RPM.
Thanks!

The reason I'm looking is because either my idle is low, or my IACV is going bad. The car idles rough, and from the dash tach, I think it may be too low. But when I'm driving and roll to a stop (clutch in, no A/C, no load except the radio), the idle drops to ~750, the climbs back to ~1000, then drops back off and stabillizes somewhere just above 500-600. This is in a 96 EX.
My girlfriend drives a 00 EX, and I drive her car and mine the exact same way. Her idle drops and stabilizes immediately, and is smooth as a baby's ass. Mine bounces around, and is still rough when it does stabilize.
Ideas here? Thanks.
