Interior rust 94 hatch
Just pulled my carpet, 1 or 2 surface rust spots in the foot wells, no big deal-bondo. In front of the rear bench, there is a factory seam, tht looks like it has putty overit...I have a small line of rust about 13 inches long on the passenger side along this seam. Is it ok to sand out the rust, and put some rubberized spray on it? or should I have my body shop look at this? Also, is this a key structural point of the unibody?
advTHANKSance for any help, I can post pics after 11a today, if needed.

In case anyone was wondering, I got this fixed. Just surface rust, nothing serious. Just pulled up the rubber seam seal, swept out the loose rust, and sanded out the bad metal. After I cleaned the bare metal, I used a rubberized undercoating spray that I ordered out of JCwhitney. I ordered four cans of the stuff, and there was plenty left over. The can suggested that the spray was good for sound insulation...So I decided to try it out. I'll post pics if anyone wants, but since I only have my door / interior panels in, it just looks like bed liner sprayed on: interior floorboards / footwells, the rear seat bench, and the spare tire well. got in and started 'er up-huge difference in interior noise--can't wait 'till I put my pad/carpet/seats in...it'll be quieter than a damn Lexus.
I'll take/upload pics around 12am central, tonight... I weighed the cans before and after I sprayed, lost only about 1.5 1.7 lbs...I guess not as much as dynamat...I'm gonna put dynamat over it, under floor mat areas front and rear, just for a little extra sound insulation...I think the rust was just from wet feet/mildewed carpet, the location of the rust was consistent with where you would put your feet.

Now, if you are going to advance your timing, you should do it properly with an advance timing gun so you know exactly how much you are advancing it. Ideally, you would want to do this on a dyno to see if it actually helps smooth your powerband out or create more peak power.

If ur wheel wells have the black strip on it take it off now, they hold water on the quater and make it rust even more. Hey JDMeg6 u might want to take that quote from another thread off.
Already had my rear wheel well rust repaired...no black strip on there though, maybe the previous owner removed them. Pics this afternoon, I swear...I love getting called in to work after I've already left 4 days in a row...
Here's pictures of the inside with the interior out...and one with the seat in so I could actually take pictures outside of the garage. I know I've got bare spots, but I sprayed on the thinest parts of the floor boards...and the bare spots will have dynamat; as well as all the footwells. The rust was on the floor right up against the rear seat bench...you can hardly see where it was... :boink:
I'm adding pictures to my garage and posting in civic picture threads if you want to see the future GS-Rt...
